The Chancellor of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Sen. Ibrahim M. Ida has funded the construction of four solar powered boreholes to improve access to clean water and enhance welfare across the university community.
The intervention, valued at about ₦12 million, will see the installation of modern AC/DC solar powered boreholes at the Senate Building, Female Hostel, Sabbatical Staff Quarters and the Faculty of Social Sciences.
The project is aimed at addressing water supply challenges affecting academic and residential facilities within the institution.
The University management said the initiative would significantly improve sanitation, promote a healthier environment and support uninterrupted academic and administrative activities.
The solar powered system is designed to ensure sustainable water supply, particularly during power outages.
The Vice Chancellor Prof Shehu Salihu Muhammad described the project as timely and impactful, noting that it reflects the Chancellor’s strong commitment to improving infrastructure and strengthening the learning environment.
He assured that the project would be closely monitored to ensure compliance with approved technical specifications and timely completion which is scheduled within three weeks.
In official communication forwarded to the Vice Chancellor, relevant project documents were transmitted for necessary action, with emphasis on proper supervision to guarantee quality delivery.
Members of the university community have welcomed the intervention, describing it as a critical step toward improving living and working conditions on campus.
Also reacting, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council Sen. Hadi Abubakar Sirika, commended the Chancellor for the initiative and called on stakeholders and well meaning individuals to support the development of the institution.
He described the university, established in honour of former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, as a vital asset to Katsina State and a symbol of academic progress.
The project is expected to strengthen essential infrastructure and further position the university to deliver quality teaching, rese arch and community service.
