Ethnic community leaders commend Nigerian Army’s security efforts in Kano

A delegation of ethnic community leaders in Kano State on Friday paid a courtesy visit to the Commander of 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Ahmed Tukur, to commend the Army’s efforts in maintaining security across the state.

The delegation, led by the Head of the Ethnic Community Leaders, Eze Ndigbo of Kano, Dr. Bonniface Ibekwe, included prominent traditional rulers and leaders such as the Oba of Yoruba of Kano, Muritala Alimi; Sarkin Northern-Minority, Abubakar Obochi; and Sarki Edo, Kano, Deacon Fred Aigbe.

During the visit, Dr. Ibekwe expressed gratitude to the officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army for their dedication to defending the nation’s territorial integrity.

He highlighted the strong collaboration between security agencies and ethnic community leaders, which he said has been crucial in maintaining peace and stability in the state.

“Kano, often described as a “mini Nigeria” due to its diverse ethnic composition, requires careful handling and collective efforts to sustain harmony,” Ibekwe noted

The leader of the delegation also commended the Brigade’s swift response to recent security threats in Shanono and raised concerns regarding the Sabon-Gari axis, showing video and audio evidence of incidents circulating on social media.

He assured the Commander of the continued support and cooperation of community leaders in promoting peace.

In his remarks, Brigadier General Tukur welcomed the community leaders and reaffirmed their role as key stakeholders in ensuring security.

Tukur stressed that security is a shared responsibility and urged leaders to keep sensitizing their communities to remain vigilant.

The Commander also cautioned against the misuse of social media as a platform for spreading disinformation, and emphasized that sustainable development is a vital mechanism for lasting peace in Kano State.

He assured the leaders of the Nigerian Army’s readiness to continue supporting collaborative initiatives aimed at maintaining peace and stability.

Tukur urged the ethnic leaders to remain security conscious as well as provide vital information that would assist the security agencies to carry out their duties.
