The police on Monday arraigned a 43-year-old man, John Whesu, at a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing cell phone valued at N127, 000.
The defendant, of no fixed address, was charged with stealing and breach of peace.
He however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 25, at about 4.00p.m at Badagry Roundabout, Lagos.
Ekpo alleged that the defendant stole one Redmi 14C android phone valued at N127, 000.
“The defendant conducted himself in manner likely to cause breach of peace by causing pandemonium.
“He was later arrested and handed over to police for prosecution,” he said.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum N200,000 with two sureties in the like sum.
He said that one of the sureties must be a community leader.
Layeni adjourned the case until April 9, for mention.
