The Police Command in Jigawa says it has begun investigating a 27-year-old son for allegedly setting a 60-year-old father on fire in Kazaure local government area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Shiisu Lawan, made this known in a statement issued on Monday in Dutse.
Adama said the incident occurred April 1 at Lokon Malamai area of Magama quarters in Kazaure town, where the deceased was engulfed by fire suspected ignited by an unknown person.
“The Jigawa State Police Command has recorded a tragic and deeply disturbing incident that occurred in Kazaure Local Government Area, involving the alleged killing of a father by his biological son.
“On April 1, 2026, at about 0630hrs, the Command received a report from Lokon Malamai, via Magama Quarters in Kazaure town, that a 60-year-old was engulfed by fire suspiciously ignited by an unknown person.
“On receipt of the report, the team of policemen responded promptly, and the victim was rushed to the nearest hospital,” Adam said.
He explained that preliminary investigations revealed that on the same date at about 6 a.m, an unidentified person poured a reasonable quantity of a flammable item, suspected to be petrol on the victim’s body and set him ablaze.
The spokesperson added that indepth surveillance and investigation led to the arrest of a 27-year-old son of the son of the victim with several fresh fire burns and wounds on his forehead, arms and toes.
According to him, the victim was later referred to the higher medical center for intensive treatment, where he later succumbed to injuries sustained while receiving treatment.
Adam said the suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Dutse, for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.
He quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Haruna Yahaya as condemning in strong terms the heinous act and assuring the public that justice will be served.
According to him, Yahaya also called on residents to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes and to report any signs of domestic violence or conflict to the nearest police station.
“The Command therefore urges members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with the police as investigations continue
course and further developments will be communicated in due course,” the spokesperson said.
