The 5th Waziri of Katsina, Prof. Sani Abubakar Lugga, has urged journalists in Katsina State to intensify efforts toward promoting programmes and reports that would strengthen unity among Nigerians.
Lugga made the call when he received the newly elected executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Katsina State Council, during a courtesy visit in Katsina.
The delegation was led by the Permanent Secretary, Katsina State Ministry of Information and Culture, Alhaji Tukur Hassan Dan-Ali, a former chairman of the council.
The Waziri expressed concern over what he described as the declining unity among Nigerians, stressing that journalists had a critical role to play in fostering peace, understanding and national cohesion.
According to him, the media remains a powerful tool for promoting mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence among citizens.
He congratulated the newly elected NUJ executives on the confidence reposed in them by members of the union and urged them to work collectively toward advancing the welfare and progress of the council.
Lugga also commended the Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, for appointing Dan-Ali as Permanent Secretary in the state government.
Earlier, Dan-Ali described the Waziri of Katsina V as one of the respected elders and strong supporters of the NUJ in the state.
He expressed appreciation for the guidance and support he received from Lugga during his tenure as NUJ chairman, noting that the advice contributed significantly to the achievements recorded by the union.
Also speaking, the new NUJ Chairman in the state, Comrade Aminu Garba Dandagoro, thanked the Waziri for the warm reception accorded the delegation.
