The members of the Jigawa State House of Assembly have passed a vote of confidence in Gov Umar Namadi of the state for his purposeful and exemplary leadership.
According to the members, Namadi’s leadership has positively transformed the lives of their constituents within last three years of his administration.
The vote of confidence was passed during a special sitting convened by the Speaker, Mr Haruna Aliyu.
Mr Muhammad Lawan-Dansure, the Majority Leader of the Assembly, sponsored a motion requesting members to deliberate on the matter and consider actions that would serve as a moral booster, appreciation and recognition of thr governor’s efforts to make the state prosperous and great.
During the session, the members took turn and narrated the dividends of democracy delivered to their constituencies, which they said merited the governor receiving such recognition from the assembly.
The lawmakers outlined projects and programmes cutting across all aspects of human life, executed in their respective constituencies, in line with the governor’s 12‑point agenda, which emphasizes inclusive governance for overall development of the state.
The listed projects that included the construction of hundreds of classrooms, completion of over 340 km of inherited road projects and the award of 43 new projects covering over 980 km, some of which have been completed and commissioned.
Other achievements according to the legislators are the expansion of irrigation facilities, unlimited support for the agricultural sector, employment of 1,000 extension workers, establishment of Ministry of Livestock, free veterinary services, establishment of new hospitals, including general hospital, renovation and upgrading others, including over 180 primary healthcare facilities.
The members further narrated various solar‑powered projects, including the conversion of motorised water facilities and street lights to solar power, as well as the construction of mini‑grids for residential and selected public buildings to encourage the use of environmentally friendly energy.
Social security programmes such as economic empowerment of over 400,000 people, enrolment of over 250,000 less privileged people into social health insurance, erosion control projects, scholarships, employment of over 7,000 teachers and over 2,000 health workers, among other projects and programmes, have directly benefited their constituencies within the short period of three years.
The legislators also used the governor’s scorecard and unanimously passed a vote of confidence in him and promised to use that as justified reason for every citizens of the state to support the his second‑term bid in 2027 general election.
In his remarks, the Speaker, who expressed joy on how each of the members testified and mentioned over 20 different projects executed in their respective constituencies, urged them to continue promoting the good work of the governor wherever they find themselves.
“By your testimonies, we are convinced that every house, every community, every town and every local government has enjoyed dividends of democracy delivered by Governor Namadi.
“With this, we can declare Governor Namadi as a great leader who deserves all support, and we are proud to associate ourselves with his great achievement,” the speaker said.
