The Dahiru Bara’u Mangal Foundation says no fewer than 30,000 vulnerable patients have benefited from its free medical outreach programmes across Katsina State since 2018.
The foundation also commenced screening and treatment of about 2,000 patients having different kinds of eye problems, including those that require surgery.
A member of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, Hussaini Kabir, disclosed this on Friday at the commencement of a free hernia and hydrocele surgery programme at the General Hospital, Katsina.
Kabir explained that more than 700 vulnerable patients within and outside the state are expected to undergo free hernia and hydrocele surgeries.
According to the foundation’s board of trustee member, the gesture aimed to improve access to quality healthcare for vulnerable residents.
He said patients diagnosed with the diseases were being screened before undergoing free surgeries, while those with minor ailments would receive free medications.
“The programme is conducted periodically and is fully sponsored by Alhaji Dahiru Mangal to provide quality healthcare services to less privileged members of society.
“Patients requiring surgery will receive it free of charge, while those with less severe conditions will be treated with appropriate medications at no cost,” he said.
Kabir added that the Foundation also sponsors free eye surgeries, urological procedures and other specialised medical interventions across the state.
Also speaking, Dr Saifullahi Bawale commended the Foundation for complementing government efforts in healthcare delivery through sustained medical outreach programmes.
He said the initiative had restored hope to thousands of vulnerable patients in the state who could not afford treatment.
According to him, adequate medical personnel, equipment, medications and other facilities have been provided to ensure the success of the exercise.
Some beneficiaries at the general hospital, expressed appreciation to the foundation for the intervention, saying that the gesture has restored their lost hopes.
Malama Zulaihat Adamu from Jibia, expressed happiness that her son will under a hernia surgery, a medical bill which she said they could not afford for a long time.
Shamsu Abubakar, another patient, also commended the foundation for sponsoring his eye surgery, praying that it should be the end of his eye problem.
Also, Firdausi Muhammad from Batsari, Katsina, described the programme as a major relief for patients unable to pay for surgical treatment and prayed for continued blessings for the Foundation’s founder.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the foundation has also continued its free eye care outreach at the Katsina eye centre, where patients are being screened and treated free of charge.
Patients requiring eyeglasses are provided with them free, while those diagnosed with conditions requiring surgery are scheduled for free eye operations under the programme.
