The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna Sector Command, has honoured the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Chief Correspondent in Kaduna, Tijjani Muhammed  for his strategic contribution to road safety through adequate publicity.

Mohammed was presented with a commendation letter alongside various units within the FRSC Kaduna Sector Command for their commitment to effective service delivery.

The commendation letter was presented on Wednesday during the 2026 International Customer Service Week celebration organised by the command in Kaduna.

The week, with the theme “The Extra Mile,” focuses on promoting service excellence, responsiveness, professionalism and stronger relationships between public institutions and citizens.

The letter, recognised Muhammed’s selfless support, professionalism, commitment and willingness in supporting the corps’ sensitisation and advocacy initiatives.

The letter expressed the command’s desire to sustain and strengthen the relationship, particularly in public sensitisation, awareness creation and dissemination of critical road safety information.

The letter also stressed that the collaboration would ultimately benefit the motoring public and contribute to safer roads in Kaduna State.

In his remarks, the Sector Commander Andrew Longkam, said the celebration was designed to renew the corps’ commitment to quality service.

Longkam said the Customer Service Week was rooted in the Federal Government’s Service Compact with All Nigerians (SERVICOM) initiative.

He said FRSC had remained actively engaged with SERVICOM and was among the first government agencies to sign and implement the SERVICOM Charter.

According to him, the initiative has provided an avenue for members of the public to interface with government agencies and demand quality service.

He said SERVICOM had also helped organisations develop clear visions and missions, enabling the public to understand the services expected from them.

Longkam said the Kaduna Sector Command commenced the week with the establishment of a customer desk, among other endeavors.

He said the command also held a press briefing to inform the public about the celebration and its commitment to customer service.

The Sector Commander said the celebration was also an opportunity to appreciate FRSC personnel for their sacrifices and commitment to serving Nigerians.

He said the command was using the occasion to renew its commitment to effective service delivery and improved engagement with the public.

Reading the Corps Marshal’s appreciation message, Longkam commended FRSC personnel nationwide for their dedication, resilience and commitment to serving Nigerians.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the theme reflected the daily responsibilities of FRSC personnel in protecting lives.

He cited officers assisting stranded motorists, patrol teams working in difficult weather, rescue personnel responding to emergencies and Driver’s Licence Centre staff assisting applicants.

Mohammed urged personnel to explain rather than dismiss, listen rather than assume, resolve complaints and follow up to ensure legitimate concerns were addressed.

He said excellent customer service remained fundamentally human despite technological advances in service delivery.

He urged officers and marshals to uphold courtesy, professionalism, responsiveness and effective complaint resolution while remaining focused on protecting lives.

Mohammed also called on commanding officers and heads of departments, corps offices and special units to promote service excellence, welcome feedback and encourage innovation.

He urged personnel to make “The Extra Mile” more than a weekly theme by reflecting it in how they communicate, listen, respond and resolve issues.

The Corps Marshal said such commitment would help strengthen public trust and improve the Corps’ service to Nigerians.

The Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Kaduna State Directorate, Mr Danjuma Makama, said the theme was a reminder that excellent public service required going beyond official duties to listen, respond promptly and treat citizens with respect.

Makama, represented by Mr Sulaiman Ibrahim, Deputy Director Programmes, said for FRSC, going the extra mile could mean responding faster to emergencies, assisting stranded motorists or showing compassion to road crash victims.

He said quality service delivery was essential to building public trust and strengthening the relationship between government and citizens.

He commended FRSC for promoting service excellence and professionalism, while encouraging public servants to embrace the spirit of “The Extra Mile.”
