Sokoto: Police sensitise motorists, reaffirm commitment to community partnership

By Muhammad Nasir

The Police Command in Sokoto State on Wednesday sensitised motorists on safety and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community partnership.

The sensitisation exercise, held at the Sokoto Central Motor Park, was part of activities marking the 2026 Police Day celebration in the state.

Speaking at the event, the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Zone 10 Sokoto, Mr Gyogon Grimah, said the initiative was designed to encourage broader public participation in promoting safety.

Grimah stressed that the motor park was deliberately chosen due to its high volume of daily human and vehicular movement.

“We strategically came to the motor park because it is a hub of activities with significant movement on a daily basis.

“The key stakeholders here are the drivers, as without them there would be no movement within the park.

“We are here to rub minds with commuters and drivers on the need to conduct their activities safely and peacefully,” he said.

He acknowledged the critical role played by drivers in ensuring the safe movement of goods and passengers across the country.

The AIG added that both the police and drivers had observed several safety concerns that required collective action to improve the overall environment and business operations.

On election-related issues, Grimah emphasised the need for peaceful conduct, noting that the police were committed to promoting peace at all times.

“Anything that does not promote peaceful coexistence will not be tolerated.

“We urge everyone to desist from violence, not only during elections but in general,” he warned.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Hayatu Shaffa, reassured residents of the command’s commitment to strengthening community partnership.

Shaffa said the police would continue to build trust and ensure a safe environment for all citizens.

He urged the public to promptly report any suspicious activities in their communities to aid effective policing.
