A 36-year-old man, Adegoke Adeyemi, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 96 cartons of Maggi cubes valued at N5.4 million.
Adeyemi is facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 3, at about 2.00 a.m., at GPC Energy and Logistics Ltd., located at No. 4B Regina Coker St., off Kofoworola, Ikeja, Lagos.
Ikhayere alleged that the defendant stole 96 cartons of Maggi Star valued at N5.4 million, belonging to GPC Energy and Logistics Ltd.
According to her, the offence contravene Section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the law prescribes a seven-year jail term for anyone found guilty of stealing property valued above N20 million.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr L. A. Owolabi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N400,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until March 17 for further proceedings.
