Iran rules out talks with US

Ali Larijani, Iran’s top national security official, has declared that Iran will not negotiate with the United States, dismissing reports suggesting Tehran had sought renewed diplomatic engagement.

Larijani made the statement in a post on X, formerly Twitter, in response to media reports alleging that Iran had approached Washington through intermediaries to resume talks.

The senior official, who serves as secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, accused US President Donald Trump of destabilising the Middle East with what he described as “false hopes,” adding that Washington was now concerned about potential casualties among its troops in the region.

“Trump has plunged the region into chaos with his false promises and is now worried about further American casualties,” Larijani said.

He further criticised Trump’s foreign policy stance, claiming it prioritised Israeli interests over those of the United States.

“With his delusional actions, he has transformed his self-made slogan of ‘America First’ into ‘Israel First’ and sacrificed American soldiers for Israel’s quest for power,” he added.

Larijani, a key adviser to Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, also rejected allegations that Tehran initiated recent hostilities, insisting that Iranian forces acted defensively.

The remarks underscore growing tensions between Tehran and Washington amid ongoing regional instability and stalled diplomatic efforts between the two longtime adversaries.
