The former Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on political matters, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has demanded for justice and fair hearing in the case of the Kaduna State former Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.
Baba-Ahmad, a prominent Northern Elders Forum (NEF) spokesperson, stated this on Friday on his verified Facebook page.
As one of the northern top politician, Baba-Ahmad is well known as one of the critics of the former governor’s policies when he (El-Rufai) was in power.
He said,, “Whatever offence El-Rufai is accused of committing, it is necessary for the authorities to handle the charges against him strictly in accordance with the law and justice, as is guaranteed to every Nigerian.
“His politics, personal grievances, or hostility should not be brought into the matter.
“Both his supporters and his critics must now remain vigilant to ensure that justice is upheld at every stage of the investigation and any subsequent judgment.”
Northern Post recalls that Elrufa’i, a two time governor under the All Progressive Congress (APC), decamped to the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Recently, El-Rufai on his arrival to Nigeria from an annual vacation, was stopped by the officials of the Department of State Services (DSS), where his International passport was collected.
El-Rufai later honoured an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), where he spent several hours in their custody.
Immediately the former governor was released based on bail condition, he was also taken away by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
At the time of this report, El-Rufai is still in the ICPC custody.
