Jigawa Ministry of Women Affairs, UNICEF to sponsor 1,500 girls into literary, skills acquisition classes

Dutse-The Jigawa Government, in collaboration with United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), is set to sponsor 1,500 girls child and adolescent girls into literacy and skills acquisition classes in the state.

The Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Hadiza AbdulWahab, disclosed this when she inspected the enrollment exercise in some centres in Dutse and Kiyawa Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The commissioner, represented by the Director Child Development of the ministry, Hajiya Halima Yusuf, explained the pivotal exercise will be conducted in Birnin Kudu, Dutse, Jahun and Kiyawa LGAs, 25 beneficiaries drawn from each wards of the selected areas.

She explained that the exercise will focus on out -of -school children between the ages of eight and 14, who will be enrolled into literacy classes to enable them continuing their education.

The commissioner added that adolescent girls of between 15 and 16 years will also undergo the literacy and skills acquisition training under same initiative.

According to her, the enrollment of the targeted beneficiaries must have the consent of their parents and husbands.

She further stated that the exercise will last for eight weeks, aferwhich the participants will be empowered to be self reliant.

Abdulwahab therefore, called on the people in the benefitting LGAs to support the gesture, saying bthat similar exercise will be extended to other parts of the state.
